Latest hot news, on top of all the exciting Women's World Cup headline, is Megan Rapinoe's recent words about possibly getting a White House invitation from President Trump... before there was an invite. Of course, it was a question rhetorically asked by the camera man and she responded honestly.
“I’m not going to the f**king White House,” Rapinoe said in a video clip of an interview with Eight by Eight, a football magazine. “No. I’m not going to the White House.”
USWNT teammate, Ali Krieger, back Rapinoe by also putting a statement on Twitter saying, “I stand by @mPinoe & will sit this one out as well".
For those who are unfamiliar with the team, Rapinoe and Krieger are very high profiled athletes and LGBTQ activists. Also, if you don't remember...Rapinoe made headlines over the past years by supporting former NFL star Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the playing of the national anthem at games to protest racism and police brutality. She went on to do the same during before her professional games.
Trump's Response:
Trump responded, of course. Women's soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is "not going" to the F...ing White House if we win." Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passes, Black unemployment is at the lowest level...
...in our Country's history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House. I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women's Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven't yet....
“Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her and the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear,” he snapped back on Twitter.
Trump also stated that he hadn’t yet invited the team but that he was now doing so.
Krieger's response:
“I don’t support this administration nor their fight against LGBTQ+ citizens, immigrants & our most vulnerable.”
Personally, this video should not have been released at this time. USA face off France in the Quarterfinals of the #FIFAWWC which has been referred to as the FINAL due to its rivalry and level playing field. Whoever released this during such an important time for the USWNT and all women's football should be frowned down upon. This video could have waited... until they lift they possibly lift the trophy.
